When a web site designer chooses to use a dark background, they must keep the article length short. Lengthy articles can cause far too much strain on the readers eyes.

Font size reminds me of another topic - accessibility. Ideally, a web site should be designed so that the reader can specify their minimum font size in order to remain accessible to those readers with vision problems, or just "older eyes".

I also read studies that said dark text on a light background is more readable than light text on a dark background. 

Keeping the text column length short as you have done in this site deign makes reading easier too. Note this is common for news papers.</description>
